This beautiful region is in Western France and is geographically diverse, with some of the best coastline in the whole of France. Inland, the scenery changes dramatically, marshlands and plains give way to lush meadows, hedgerows, forests, rivers, densely-wooded hillsides, cultivated fields, vineyards and orchards. Many interesting towns and pretty villages can be found all through this beautiful unspoilt region.
Key towns and cities such as Poitiers, Bordeaux, Angouleme, La Rochelle and Cognac offer a year-long calendar of activities and offer culture, art and history. The local people are said to be one of the friendliest in all of France and it is not unusual for neighbours to leave gifts of fruit and vegetables on your doorstep! Oysters, mussels, Cognac and Pineau are just some of the many local specialties to be savored.
The climate is one of the sunniest in all of France. With an early-arriving spring, long hot summer days, a late autumn and a short winter, ideal for outdoor living.
The area is one of the most accessible regions of France. With excellent air, rail and road links, there is very little difficulty getting to and exploring the region. Main auto routes and major roads link the region with major cities including the channel tunnel and ferry ports.
The region is earmarked for substantial investment in infrastructure works that will realise improved TGV routes with Paris and the south.
