The Midi Pyrénées
Situated in the heart of south-west France, Midi-Pyrénées stretches from the wooded hills of the Dordogne, in the north to the majestic Pyrénées in the south. It is one of the largest regions in France and boasts a rich history, a landscape of ancient towns, villages, castles, and Romanesque churches.
It is a wonderful region for food lovers and its gastronomic excellence is unquestionable. This is the land of geese and ducks, of boar, truffles, cepes and walnuts. The region’s markets are a gourmet’s delight.
The area has one of the lowest population densities in France and has remained largely agricultural in nature. There is a relaxed pace of life and the area has retained much of its traditional character.
It has a stunning landscape of ancient oak forests, vineyards, mountains and river valleys. The area is steeped in history and yet, compared with the neighbouring Dordogne, is still relatively undiscovered by tourism.
The Midi-Pyrénées is renowned for its innate sense of celebration and visitors are often surprised by its friendly spontaneity. It is also a region that is full of things to see and do and has a year round calendar of activities.
Principal towns and cities such as Toulouse and Cahors have all of the colour and animation that you would desire – bustling cafes, art, history and culture.
The region enjoys long hot summers. Winter, when it comes, can be cold, but BBQ’s can be enjoyed from April through to October.
The region benefits from being accessible from four airports (all of which are served by budget airlines from the UK).
